Underwater Sound from the RTC Pier { Underwater Acoustics Research Group }

Research results

The sound files recorded on the RTC pier give interesting information about the activities of fish and about their acoustical environment. The humming of the plainfin Midshipman has been studied by making power spectra for each 15-minute time series, and searching for a peak near 100 Hz. When a significant peak is found, its central frequency and intensity are recorded. The distributions below use these data to shed light on the ecology of the midshipman in San Francisco Bay.
