Underwater Sound from Ship Traffic on SF Bay

San Francisco Bay is a busy waterway, with heavy traffic from passenger ferries, heavy shipping including oil tankers and container ships, and small private vessels. We are investigating the effect of this noise on the natural flora and fauna of SF Bay.
The Romberg Tiburon Center is located on the North SF Bay, with a 200-foot pier extending into deep water. A hydrophone deployed from the end of the pier monitors underwater sounds, 24 hours a day. Some interesting sounds are given below.
